Traffic Crime and Common Traffic Charges

Many otherwise law-abiding citizens sometimes make an error of judgement when they are driving with the result that they could end up in court charged with a traffic related offence, sometimes with consequences that include fines and a loss of licence for a minimum period of 6 months or longer.  Traffic charges can have adverse consequences on your employment and future employment and your day to day routines.

If you are a commercial driver, driving a taxi, truck or bus you are subject to further stringent rules and regulations administered and enforced by the New Zealand Transport Agency.  Any Court conviction is likely to have flow on consequences initiated by the NZTA.

Alcohol Interlock and Zero Alcohol Licences

The drink driving laws have been amended to permit some people who are convicted of drink driving to apply for an alcohol interlock licence.  This is a complicated procedure and only applies in certain circumstances.  However, rather than face an indefinite disqualification, a person who succeeds in an application for an interlock licence will be disqualified for just three months after which they can drive normally, albeit with an alcohol interlock device attached to their car for a period of twelve months.  You may qualify for an alcohol interlock licence and I am able to assist you if you do.

In certain circumstances a person who is convicted for a drink driving offence will have to apply for a Zero Alcohol Licence which applies for three years.  A Zero Alcohol Licence allows the driver to drive without restriction except to the extent that they are not permitted to have any alcohol on their breath – even under the legal limit.  You may be subject to a Zero Alcohol Licence requirement or you may not.

Limited Licences

Have you been disqualified from holding or obtaining a driver licence as a result of being convicted in Court or has your Driver Licence been suspended or about to be suspended through demerit points?  If so, you may need a limited licence which some people call a work licence.  The application process has to be careful and cover a range of matters to reach the legal threshold if you want to succeed with it in Court otherwise you may not get a second chance.

Let me remove much of the stress associated with making an application for a limited licence and prepare it for you, as well as filing it in Court and arranging a hearing for you.

Please tell me about your traffic offences:
